We have been providing essential and emergency eye care throughout the pandemic.
We are currently providing problem solving consultations and prioritising indepth montoring for those who are considered at risk due to either pre existing conditions, their age ( over 50 increasing with age), or functional issues. Routine appointments are being offered when we have capacity.
Our current precautions
We will first take your details and an outline of your history and presenting problem over the phone. Our Specialist Optometrist may need to call you and discuss your condition with you. If he wishes to see you, you will need to be covid symptom free. He will, during your examination be wearing the apropriate personal protective equipment and we have already a breath screen attached to our Slit lamp and installed HEPA filters that are designed to filter such small particles including the virus.
We would ask that where ever possible, you are the only one who attends the appointment. If you need to have someone with you, please let us know at the time so we can make additional arrangments for social distancing. Please provide a four layered mask. if you do not have one, let us kniow and we will provide one for you.
As we learn more about the virus so our precautions and approach changes, so please be flexible in response to our requests. Should you have a request, that wll make you feel safer, or less anxious, let us know and we will try to accomadate you.
We understand that not everyone can wear a mask, or some individuals can only wear masks for short periods. Please let us know it this relates to you.
All eye examinations are not the same: Whilst there are procedures that all sight tests must include (that’s a legal requirement), the individual conducting the test, their equipment , the time spent, as well as the attitudes expressed are all going to be different, dependent on where and who you see.
McShaw Optometrists believe in offering you the best possible eye care we can deliver and that means extending the choices you have:-
We combine an enviable range of leading equipment (that many hospitals would like to have), along with precious time needed to consider and analyse results. Put this together with an outstanding optometrist, with a proven record in communicating and you have not just an eye examiantion, but an ocular tour.
The standard sight test £42.00
The NHS funded or Standard sight test is just that. It checks your sight now. The specified tests attempt to pick up conditions based on a combination of your responses and the results from different procedures, done with a range of equipment with varying degrees of reliability. It is designed to pick up conditions such a glaucoma and cataracts as they develop and affect your vision. Great for those who are healthy and /or consider themselves to be at low risk of conditions.
Dilation and visual feilds are conducted when indicated and not as standard.
Extending the sight test to selected screening.
For those who sometimes want a more detailed specific examination, using an instrument that is the latest technology, with known reliability, then the selected screening option might be for you, This is good for those looking and recording results in a particular area , or repeating a test (which is not funded by the NHS or standard eye examination).
